My Core Values

April Jean’s consulting is rooted in core values that liberate, heal and truth.

TRUTH
To achieve true justice we must first acknowledge that the harm and trauma suffered by Black and Indigenous People has shaped the experiences and relationship to white supremacy for all People of Color living within the United States. Therefore, it is essential to center the unique lived experiences both historical and current, cultural richness and practices, and the many intersections of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color. This belief must be valued and centered in all that we do. Maintaining an intentional focus on race is essential to equity and achieving true justice and liberation.
LIBERATION
Liberation the guiding principle for creating a world in which white supremacy is abolished, and all systems of oppression are dismantled. This world provides equitable access, resources, safety, and power to all People of Color, who have been historically marginalized and oppressed due to systemic racism and oppression. Liberation for all People of Color allows us to create new institutions, policies, practices, programs, and relationships that honor the humanity and liberation of all people in order to create a world in which we are all free.
HEALING
Healing from white supremacy and racism is a journey that involves understanding the history of oppression, the violence, harm, and trauma inflicted on Black and Indigenous and other People of Color in America. It acknowledges the feelings of shame, guilt, and anxiety of those who identify as white. The journey of healing is a life-long learning process that includes a clear understanding of the role history plays in racism, oppression, bias, and harm. To heal from racism, you must re-educate yourself and unlearn the processes of racism.
